12 Week Bumpdate

Wow!! My first actual pregnancy update! I almost can’t believe it. We are 12 weeks today & very close to being out of the first trimester. Every day we are given with this child is a miracle. I don’t even know where to start because I haven’t ever had the chance to plan this far ahead for a bump update post. Please comment with some ideas or questions you want to know about this pregnancy.

I guess I’ll start with how I’ve been feeling. Weeks 5-6 were honestly probably the hardest. One of those days I was in bed so nauseous I couldn’t even get up. I thought if it were like this every day, I have no idea how I’m going to make it 40 weeks. Thankfully, it got a little easier & different symptoms came. During weeks 9 to now I’ve had some morning sickness & heartburn. Almost every morning I wake up & throw up, even if nothing comes out. But once that’s over, I’m usually good the rest of the day if I eat throughout the day & watch what I eat. Around 7pm I would get some stomach pains & heartburn, but thankfully that is subsiding a bit now. I would way rather be puking in the morning & feeling ok the rest of the day than feeling nauseous all day. Props to all the women who had/have it harder than me!

I haven’t had many strong cravings, however, anything that does sound good to eat is usually something with gluten. As I have said before, I’m gluten free. I have been for a year & a half, & the reason I started going gluten free is different than why I stayed gluten free. I found out that if I eat even a little bit of gluten I get a terrible headache. A headache so bad it’s not worth the donut or pizza in that moment. If it were worth it, believe me, I would be eating all the donuts in the world! Going gluten free honestly hasn’t been a hard shift, especially since my husband is doing it too, but dang, it’s hard while pregnant!!! Please, can someone relate?? The few things I have wanted to eat, but can’t, are crab rangoon, donuts, Wendy’s or Chick fil A chicken sandwhiches, & ramen. I sometimes day dream about eating a chocolate frosted cream filled donut. :( If anyone out there has any tips, tricks, or recipes to help me out, please send them my way! While we were at camp, I almost started crying because there was gluten in a potato bacon soup they served. I was so sad about it, I ended up eating half my bowl of soup & later that night had a bad headache. I was hoping something had changed, but unfortunately it didn’t. I learned my lesson that’s for sure.

My tummy was bloated for a while during camps, but it’s been on & off showing. Advice to anyone pregnant in their first trimester: your symptoms & growing belly will come & go. Don’t worry, it’s normal! I can finally start to see a little bigger belly, but it’s still pretty flat. And although I can’t wait to have that belly, I’m ok with it. This pregnancy has been a lot different for me, because I am learning how to be at peace with things that once freaked me out. I’m still not 100% there, but everyday I learn to lean on God a little bit more. Trust me when I say, your prayers, texts, messages, etc are helping me! THANK YOU!!

At 11 weeks & just yesterday we listened to our baby’s heartbeat through a home doppler! I try not to use it often, but because my next appt isn’t until July 5, we decided to listen in. Praise the Lord we found the heart beat both times! My womb, which has been a place of death for so long, is now a place of life, health, & strength! What the enemy intends for harm, the Lord uses for good.

I ate a ton of Udi’s GF bagels my first trimester…. I somehow still lost weight I was so sick. Some Chick-fil-a’s are sampling a GF bun you should see if one near you is!

    1. That would be awesome if I found a Chick fil A with the GF bun near me! Thanks!!

I’m so happy for you!!! Praying for a healthy pregnancy, and a smooth one if that. When I found out you were pregnant I was so happy, I’ve been praying for you two.

Such amazing news! I’m so happy to hear all is well and you aren’t feeling too many pregnancy side effects. One question I have, does your doctor have you on any kind of progesterone treatment? Or any other treatment?

    1. Bethany, yes, I am on 200mg of progesterone. My specialist said I can stop taking it now, but I’m scared to. When did you stop taking yours?

      1. Bethany says:

Oh good! I stopped taking the suppositories between 12 & 14 weeks and then started weekly progesterone injections between 16-18 weeks. Is this the first pregnancy using progesterone?

      2. No, the last pregnancy I took progesterone too. Why did they have you on injections after suppositories?

  4. Morning sickness is uncomfortable, that’s for sure! Very normal pregnancy stuff, I remember it well and I sympathize with you. How exciting to hear that precious little heart beating! I’m thinking about you all the time, praying for you, and trusting God He is creating this child to be everything He desires and is keeping this child safe and secure in your womb. We are looking forward to a good report on July 5! Praise God!

Love this! You can get gluten free donuts at Trader Joe’d, I believe. Let us know if you need any other things! For example, I have a great brownie recipe made with coconut flour instead of wheat, and it is delicious!

Yikes I have no tips, am a terrible role model … became addicted (still today) to Double Stuff Oreos in my 8th month with Madison… flat belly forEVER (5 months with Kellen, still hadn’t told anyone at Minot AFB that I was pregnant)… no morning sickness either time. See? I got nuthin. BUT I certainly LOVED reading this bumpdate from my star PE student (7th grade) and am very pleased that you are doin this thang so much better than I did. And being an inspiration. And a blessing. And sharing joy. I’ll be reading every moment you decide to share and praying for your precious little family.

    1. Haha you are lucky!! Thank you so much!

I am a gluten free eater and have been for about two years. Foster farms makes gluten free chicken nuggets which are so good and if your looking for donuts then sprouts carries katz gluten free donuts in their freezer section and they taste like donuts!! Not weird texture or after taste.

    1. Awesome, thank you!!

It wouldn’t let me reply to your comment so I’ll just post it down here :)

I was put in a daily injection because we found that my cervix starts to thin around 18 weeks and with my condition (Unicornuate Uterus), pre-term labor is very likely.
